A new “anti-censorship” #hashtag

Today’s big news on Twitter is that the South Australian Labor Government, with the support of the Liberal Party, has legislated to restrict free speech during election campaigns by criminalising anonymous politcal comment.

With so many tweeps expressing outrage at this draconian measure, it would be beneficial for us to start #hastagging tweets on the topic, to highlight the public’s concern, both in SA and further afield, at this serious erosion of our right to free speech.

Please go to out “Adelaide Polls” page to vote for the #hashtag you think should be used, or suggest one of your own!

Welcome to 2010… it’s gonna be big!

There’s so much happening in Adelaide this year! It’s going to be our biggest and best year yet.

At Adelaidetweet we’re looking forward to telling you all about local events and the people that make it all happen.

We’re going to do that in some exciting new ways that utilise the power of twitter and the web… so stay tuned!

Season’s Greetings!

We started this blog with the intention of posting an update every day or two about what people are talking about on twitter in #Adelaide. Well, that didn’t really happen, did it.

But we have been busy on twitter since then, retweeting the best of what Adelaideans and others say about our fine City and its surrounds. In 82 days we’ve managed to amass about 1250 followers, about half of whom are in Adelaide or South Australia.

We’d love to get comments from you here about what we do… come on, don’t be shy.

With Christmas about to descend upon us, there is one thing we would like to talk about. Has anyone noticed how awful the Adelaide City Council’s Christmas decorations are this year? Maybe they are always that bad, but it seems funny that it a city with so many talented artists and designers we should have Christmas banners that look like they were cobbled together with cheap stock photography and an ugly script font by a monkey using Paint on a PC.

How about a competition to design next year’s banners, so we are not embarrassed when they are put up in October?

Have a great Christmas!
